Guest: Johan Renck
For Johan Renck it has been a creative journey from pop star to director. He joins host Christina Jeurling Birro on this week's episode to share what it was like being in front of the camera performing with Stakka Bo, his first experiences behind the camera directing music videos, and the many milestones since.
Renck has had a very successful career as a commercial and music video director, with videos for Madonna, Beyonce, Robbie Williams, Robyn and many more. He also directed the last two music videos produced for David Bowie, for the songs 'Lazarus' and 'Blackstar'.
With such an impressive body of work, it was no wonder that the most interesting American TV series and show-runners came calling. Now Renck is embarking on his biggest TV project yet, as director and co-executive producer of the HBO limited series 'Chernobyl' that tells the story of the events at the nuclear power plant in 1986 and the investigation that followed. The show stars Emily Watson, Stellan Skarsgård, and Jared Harris from 'The Crown'.
Johan Renck works within a variety of different media; films, commercials, music videos, television, and still photography. His first feature film 'Downloading Nancy' debuted at Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim, and recently Renck has directed episodes of seminal TV shows like 'Breaking Bad', 'The Walking Dead', 'Vikings' and the upcoming 'Chernobyl'.
